Jeff first visited Peru in 1981 when he was 17 to climb in the Cordillera Blanca.   Since then he has returned 9 times on climbing and paragliding trips.   His wife, Ursula is a native of Lima, Peru.   During their travels exploring Peru's vast flying potential, Jeff and Ursula have visited and flown the Cordillera Blanca and Cordillera Negra above Huaraz in the Ancash Department, Huancayo in the Junin Department, Andahuaylas in the Apurimac Department, and Urubamba in the Cuzco Department.   They have also explored many paragliding sites on the Peruvian coast along the Pan American Highway.

In the Fall of 2004 and again in the 2005 Adventure Tour Productions returned to Peru and revisited some of the best flying sites throughout the country.   This was Jeff's ninth trip to Peru. The flying sites visited in these tours are appropriate for pilots of all skill levels, from novice pilots to advanced cross country pilots with extensive mountain experience.   As with many areas the flying conditions change throughout the day, from light conditions in the morning to strong conditions midday.   For specific information and descriptions of visiting and flying Peru please visit the Articles section of this website and go to the Touching The Andes Article and Photo Gallery.

One of the most exceptional things about flying in Peru is using Lima as the arrival and departure point, with its famous and consistent coastal flying right in the center of the city.   Another important aspect is the nature of discovery and adventure that comes from traveling and exploring in a country that lacks significant infrastructure, other pilots and flying history.   To visit and fly in Peru is truly to step away from the common and in to the unknown.

The tours start and end in Lima and depending on the destination last from one week to ten days.   Because Lima is central to all the flying areas, it is convenient and logical to go through the city between each tour.   Participants can easily join several tours in a row, or even skip a tour and stay longer in an area. (staying in Huaraz and doing a trek for example, then joining us for the Cuzco tour two weeks later in Lima).

The tours include:

•  Cordilleras Blanca y Negra (10 days)

•  Huancayo (8 days)

•  Andahuaylas (8 days)

•  Urubamba and the Sacred Valley, Cuzco (8 days)

Included in the cost is all transportation airport to airport and guiding to sites with reasonable attempts at retrieval.   Not included is accommodations or meals.   Generally there is a choice of inexpensive low quality hotels and restaurants, and medium quality (but still cheap) hotels and restaurants.   Everyone agreeing to stay and eat in the same places will simplify daily logistics and time spent waiting.

For more information and photos of flying these incredible sites please visit the Articles section of this website and go to the Touching The Andes Article and Photo Gallery.

The itineraries are arranged so that someone who wants to experience the high mountain flying of Huaraz and Cuzco could spend some time on their own trekking either in the Cordillera Blanca or Cuzco region between these two tours.   Pilots interested in flying less challenging sites should consider the second and third tours to Huancayo and Andahuaylas.   Of course anyone who wishes to explore many different regions and sites of Peru should consider joining us for the entire trip.

Visiting Peru with a guided group is worthwhile because the flying sites are not well known, there are no established clubs or facilities for pilots, information is limited and logistics are difficult.   Also Jeff is an accomplished pilot with many trips to Peru behind him, and Ursula is a native of Lima, living in Peru until 2001.   Jeff will accompany all of the tours full time, while Ursula will join us as needed.

Group size is limited to 6 pilots, itineraries can be changed if interested pilots require alternate dates, and individual tours may be canceled if not enough pilots sign up.   Feel free to email me if you're interested or have any questions:   jeff@adventuretourproductions.com .

Fall 2004:  The Touching The Andes of Peru tour visited the exceptional flying in the Cuzco district. (Fully detailed in the Flying The Sacred Valley of the Incas article).

Fall 2005: The Touching The Andes of Peru tour visited one of the best flying areas in the world in the high Andes surrounding Huaraz. During the two week trip we flew twelve days and ten different sites. Cross Country Magazine included the Cordillera Negra as one of the seven paragliding wonders of the world, and once again we clearly saw why they did. Once again the only complaint afterwards was that the trip was too short!

Jeff Cristol of Adventure Tour Productions has been visiting Peru to climb and paraglide since 1981.   With his wife, a native of Lima, Peru, Adventure Tour Productions will return to visit sites on the pacific coast and in the high Andes.   Please see adventuretourproductions.com for more information or call 970 728 1754.
